Finding peace in uncertain times.
Updated: Mar 15, 2020
It's been a strange and unsettling world this past while. Hearing news and listening to others can bring unsettled feelings of fear, and if you're like me, you may have felt unbalanced and unsure with the worries of the unknown seeping into your life.
I don't know what next few months hold, but I DO know I had to STOP this unsettled feeling in me and break away from the hype by seeking solace in my studio. I pushed the world aside for an evening and immersed myself in my art by creating some simple yet bold collages. And guess what? I came out of there in a better space, with a freer and calmer state of mind.
It's super important for us to take a step back and create new pathways for our brain, and for me, it changes my whole being. It's important for us to take time to focus on something that brings us joy, fulfillment or peace not only every day, but especially now.
What have you tried to find peace and calm in your day? Finding calmness or peace doesn't have to be associated by making art, but I think it does require taking mindful moments in your day. Here are some simple things that make ME smile and bring joy to my day as I continue to try and see life through the lens of creativity:
the colour pink
a cozy sweater on a cold day
when my child makes me laugh
cuddling with my dog
getting messages from my cousins overseas
watching the birds at their feeder
rainbows
tea staining paper and fabric
walks in the forest with my dog
wearing fun socks with imags on them (like animals)
splurging on good mascara (like Carmindy's)
sending a friend I haven't talked to in a while a message to let them know I'm thinking of them
walking barefoot
observing the intricacies of a flower
stopping and listening to the birds chirp
smelling the natural scents of essential oils in my diffuser
blending paint with my fingers
lighting a candle for dinner
taking a cat nap
revelling in blue sky
pretty napkins
fabric from the thrift store
reading Somerset Magazine
watching "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist" (my new favourite show. Since hockey's cancelled.)
I hope this finds you well. Take care of yourself. Slow down. Find calm moments. Be.
With love,
Chris
